To answer the question of how to choose lighting, we need to know some of its fundamental characteristics. Interior lighting is not just a functional necessity – it is important for creating the atmosphere, style and visual aesthetics of a space. Choosing the right light depends on a number of factors, such as the color of the light, color temperature, intensity and other technical characteristics.
1. Light color and color temperature
It is not permissible to use lighting of different temperatures in the same space, it is measured in Kelvin (K) and determines how warm or cold the light appears:

2700K – 3000K – Warm White: Ideal for living areas – living room, bedroom, dining room. Creates a cozy atmosphere.
3500K – 4100K – Neutral White: Good for a kitchen or bathroom.
5000K – 6500K – Cool White / Daylight: Used in offices, workspaces, or where high color perception is required.
It is not recommended to use this color in residential areas.
2. Light intensity (lumen)
Light intensity is measured in lumens (lm). The higher the lumens, the brighter the light.
For cozy areas (bedroom, living room) – 300–600 lumens is enough for each light.
For work spaces – 800–1200 lumens or more is needed.
Decorative lights – there may be fewer lumens here, but the lighting design and accents will be important.
3. CRI (Color Rendering Index) – color rendering accuracy
CRI is an index that indicates how accurately a light reflects the natural color of an object. The maximum value is 100.
CRI 90+ – a good color rendering index, this index of light preserves the original color of objects as much as possible. Lamps with a very high CRI index are used in spaces such as operating rooms, where the perception of real color is critically important. If you want to reproduce the natural color of objects, pay attention to this indicator of the lamp.
CRI 80–90 – medium or low index
4. Dimming and control
In modern lighting systems, it is desirable to use dimmers , which allow you to adjust the light intensity according to your wishes. Smart lighting , which can be controlled by application, voice or by programming scenarios, is also popular.
5. Lighting layout
The correct placement of lights is as important as their technical characteristics:
Use zoned lighting – for example, central light + local lights (table, floor, wall) + decorative lighting
Don't forget to combine direct and indirect light to give the space a multi-layered look.
6. Style and design
In addition to technical features, the visual aspect of the lights is very important. They should match the style of the space – be it minimalist, classic, industrial or eclectic.
Conclusion: When choosing a light fixture, consider not only what kind of look you like, but also what space, mood, or function you need it for.
By choosing the right lighting, you can make your space ten times more comfortable and functional.
